Foundations of a Successful Website

A business website is really important because it tells your visitors about you and what your business is all about. The harsh reality is that 60 to 70% of website visitors will leave your website in less than 8 seconds. So you only have a few seconds to make an impression. And it is said that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover unless it is a website.

Why? Because a website tells you all you need to know about the owner’s work ethic. Ask yourself this: Is your website a client repellent or client magnet? If it is a client repellent, it could hurt your overall brand. And if a client magnet, be assured that it will definitely strengthen your brand.

In other to have a website that is client magnet, there are foundational principles that when followed through will help you achieve this feat. Think AIDA.

  • Attention
  • Interest
  • Desire
  • Action

Attention

Your website should always grab your visitor’s attention. Does it have a simple appealing design? Simple is elegant and easy to read and follow. Don’t be mesmerized with lots of graphics and those gimmicks that are on other websites. Those things are annoying to most visitors and they end up slowing down their website drastically. Keep simple and fresh so that it is easy to assimilate as you don’t want it to choke your visitors.

Interest

Your website should always spark your visitor’s interest. Are your visitors seeing content and copy that will kindle their curiosity? They should. How? You make them aware of your offerings, your qualifications, your expertise and everything that will make them want to know more about you and your business. You can’t miss the mark on this because the relevancy of your content and copy

hinges on whether you are in tune what they are searching for in the first place. Just remember to succinctly lay down your content and copy for your visitors.

Desire

Your website should always well up the desire of your visitor to “beg” for more. Is your website making your visitors want to go beyond the norm to see what else you’ve got? Desire is a strong emotion and when your brilliance is desired, there is the push for anyone to see how they can get to the next level in a bond with you. They will look for ways to work with you because your brilliance is desirable to them.

And here’s a tip: you know what is desirable because you already identified their pain point by market research.

Action

Your website should always make your visitor take action now. Wouldn’t it be so cool that your visitor contacted you for the purposes of paying you for that which you offer? It will be amazing that your website is able to either bring you sales or get someone in your email list. This is why you got into business in the first place: attract those that you want to work with.

And yes, your website has the capability to do so if you design it with the purpose of your visitors taking the necessary action in mind.

Conclusion

All in all, your website should always fulfill the foundations of a successful website. So when your website grabs the attention of your visitors and they show interest, it should then build in them the desire to take action needed to work with you.
